The Exact Text Script for Getting 5-Star Reviews

You just finished a perfect refrigerator repair. The compressor’s humming, the ice maker’s working, and the customer is relieved. You pack up your tools, hand them the invoice, and leave. A week later, you check your Google Business Profile. No review.

Meanwhile, the guy who showed up late and missed the diagnosis gets a glowing 5-star review because he remembered to ask for one.

Most appliance repair owners know they need more reviews. The problem is they don’t know what to say, when to say it, or how to ask without sounding desperate. That awkward moment at the door kills the whole thing.

This guide gives you the exact text script for getting 5-star reviews to use, the right timing, and a simple system that gets reviews without making you or your customer uncomfortable.

Why Most Appliance Repair Companies Never Get Reviews

The best technicians rarely get the reviews they deserve. It’s not because customers aren’t happy. It’s because no one asked.

Homeowners are busy. Once the fridge works or the washer stops leaking, they move on. Writing a Google review isn’t on their radar unless you put it there.

Here’s what typically goes wrong.

You wait too long to ask. By the time you send a follow up email three days later, the customer has already forgotten how relieved they were when you fixed their problem.

You don’t ask at all. You assume happy customers will leave reviews on their own. They won’t.

You ask the wrong way. Saying “if you’re happy, please leave us a review” sounds weak. It gives them an out.

The companies that rank highest on Google Maps and get the most calls are not necessarily better at repairs. They’re better at getting reviews. That gap is fixable.

The Right Time to Ask for a Review

Timing is everything. Ask too early and the customer doesn’t trust the repair yet. Ask too late and they’ve moved on.

The best moment is right after you’ve solved the problem and the customer has expressed relief or satisfaction. That’s usually at the door, right before you leave.

If the job went smoothly and the customer said something like “thank you so much” or “you saved us,” that’s your window. Their satisfaction is highest in that exact moment.

For jobs where the customer needs to test the appliance for a day or two, send the review request 24 hours later via text message. That delay works for things like washers, dryers, or ice makers where they want to run a full cycle before they’re confident it’s fixed.

Never wait longer than 48 hours. After that, the urgency fades and so does your chance of getting the review.

The Exact In-Person Script That Works

Here’s the word-for-word script our clients use when asking for reviews in person. It works because it’s confident, specific, and easy for the customer to act on.

“I’m glad we got that fixed for you. Quick question. If the repair holds up and everything’s working the way it should, would you be comfortable leaving us a quick review on Google? It takes about 30 seconds and it really helps other homeowners find us when they’re in a bind.”

Then pause. Let them respond.

Most will say yes. When they do, pull out your phone and say:

“Perfect. I’ll send you a text with the link right now so you don’t have to hunt for it later. Just click it when you have a second.”

Send the Google review link via text while you’re still standing there. That removes the friction. They don’t need to search for your business. They don’t need to remember your name. They just click.

If they hesitate or seem unsure, don’t push. Just say:

“No problem at all. If you decide to, I’ll send you the link anyway just in case.”

Then send it and move on.

The Follow-Up Text Message Script

Not every customer will leave the review right away, even if they agreed to it. That’s normal. A polite follow up text the next day increases your response rate.

Here’s the text message script:

“Hey [First Name], this is [Your Name] from [Company Name]. Just wanted to make sure everything’s still running smoothly after yesterday’s repair. If it is and you have 30 seconds, here’s that Google review link I mentioned: [LINK]. Thanks again for trusting us with your appliance.”

This works because it shows you care about the repair, not just the review. It also reminds them of the conversation at the door, so the request doesn’t feel random.

Send this text between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Don’t send it at 8 p.m. or on a Sunday morning. Timing matters.

What to Do If the Customer Says No

Some customers will say no. That’s fine. Don’t take it personally and don’t push.

The most common reasons people decline:

They don’t have a Google account and don’t want to create one.

They’re private and don’t like leaving public reviews.

They’re older and uncomfortable with technology.

When someone says no, just say:

“No problem at all. I appreciate it either way.”

Then move on. Pushing makes you look desperate and damages trust. You want long term reputation, not one forced review.

If a customer declines but seems happy with the service, ask if they’d be comfortable referring you to a neighbor or family member instead. Word of mouth referrals often convert better than reviews anyway.

How to Handle Requests After a Tough Job

Not every repair ends perfectly. Sometimes parts are backordered. Sometimes a second issue shows up after the first fix. Sometimes the customer is frustrated about the cost.

In those situations, don’t ask for a review at the door. You’ll either get a bad one or create an awkward moment that hurts your relationship.

Instead, follow up in a few days and make sure the customer is satisfied before you bring up a review.

Here’s the follow up message for tough jobs:

“Hi [First Name], just checking in to make sure everything’s still working after we wrapped up your [appliance type] repair. Let me know if anything comes up. I want to make sure you’re 100 percent happy with the outcome.”

If they confirm everything’s good, wait another day and then send the standard review request. If they mention a problem, handle it first. Reviews can wait.

Automate the Process Without Losing the Personal Touch

Asking for reviews in person works, but it’s not scalable if you’re running multiple trucks or doing 20+ jobs a week. That’s where automation helps.

Most dispatch software systems integrate with review request tools. Platforms like ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro, and Jobber let you send automated text messages with Google review links after a job is marked complete.

Set the automation to trigger 24 hours after the job closes. That gives the customer time to confirm the repair is solid without waiting so long they forget about you.

The key is making the automated message sound personal. Avoid generic templates like “Thanks for choosing us.” Use language that mirrors how your team actually talks to customers.

Here’s a solid automated text template:

“Hi [First Name], this is [Technician Name] with [Company Name]. I wanted to make sure your [appliance type] is still running smoothly after the repair. If everything’s good and you have a minute, I’d really appreciate a quick Google review. Here’s the link: [LINK]. Thanks again for trusting us.”

Personalization tokens like the customer’s first name, the technician’s name, and the appliance type make the message feel real instead of robotic.

Track your response rate. If fewer than 10 percent of customers are leaving reviews after receiving the text, your message needs work. Test different wording every few weeks until you find what resonates.

Why Google Reviews Matter More Than Yelp or Facebook

Five star Google Business Profile rating for a local appliance repair company

Appliance repair companies often ask whether they should focus on Google, Yelp, Facebook, or other review platforms.

The answer is Google. Prioritize it over everything else.

When someone’s washer stops working or their fridge is leaking, they don’t open Yelp. They type “appliance repair near me” into Google. Your Google Business Profile is the first thing they see.

Google uses review quantity, review recency, and average rating as ranking factors for local search results. More reviews mean better visibility. Better visibility means more calls.

Yelp and Facebook reviews help with social proof, but they don’t drive the same search traffic. Focus 90 percent of your review requests on Google.

If a customer insists on leaving a review somewhere else, let them. But always guide them toward Google first.

What to Do With the Reviews Once You Get Them

Getting reviews is only half the system. You also need to respond to them.

Responding to reviews signals to Google that your business is active and engaged. It also shows future customers that you care about feedback.

For 5-star reviews:

Thank the customer by name. Mention the specific appliance or service if possible. Keep it short and genuine.

Example: “Thanks so much, Jennifer. I’m glad we could get your dishwasher back up and running. We appreciate you trusting us with the repair.”

For 4-star reviews:

Thank them and acknowledge any small issue they mentioned. Don’t be defensive.

Example: “Thanks for the feedback, Tom. I’m glad the dryer’s working, and I appreciate you mentioning the timing. We’ll work on tightening up our scheduling.”

For 1- to 3-star reviews:

Stay calm. Respond professionally. Offer to make it right.

Example: “Hi Sarah, I’m sorry we didn’t meet your expectations. I’d like to learn more about what went wrong and see if there’s anything we can do to fix it. Please call us directly at [phone number] so we can work this out.”

Never argue in public. Even if the customer is wrong, a defensive response makes you look bad to everyone else reading it.

Respond to every review within 24 to 48 hours. Consistent engagement improves your Google Business Profile ranking and builds trust with potential customers.

Common Mistakes That Kill Your Review Requests

Even with a good script, small mistakes can tank your results.

Asking before the job is done. Customers won’t leave a review if they’re not sure the repair will hold. Wait until the problem is solved and they’ve expressed satisfaction.

Sending a link without context. A random Google review link in a text message with no explanation gets ignored. Always include a short message explaining why you’re asking.

Not following up. Most people need a reminder. One request is rarely enough.

Asking everyone. If a job went poorly or the customer was unhappy, skip the review request. Focus on fixing the problem first.

Using a fake or shortened link. Some customers are wary of clicking shortened URLs because they look like spam. Use your full Google review link or a branded short domain if you have one.

When to Stop Asking and Let the System Work

Once you’ve built a review system, it runs in the background. You ask at the door. You send the follow up text. Your dispatch software automates reminders.

At that point, your job is to monitor the results and adjust.

Track how many reviews you’re getting per week. If you’re doing 20 jobs a week and only getting two reviews, something’s broken. Either the script isn’t working, the timing’s off, or your team isn’t asking consistently.

Run a weekly check-in with your technicians. Make sure they’re comfortable with the script and actually using it. Some techs feel awkward asking, so role-play the conversation until it feels natural.

Celebrate wins. When a technician gets a great review, share it with the team. Recognition encourages consistency.

Text Script for 5-Star Reviews: How AMPRank Automates Your Reputation

Getting reviews consistently takes time, discipline, and follow-through. For owner-operators running one or two trucks, it’s manageable. For growth-stage companies running five or more trucks, it becomes a full-time job.

That’s where AMPRank comes in.

We also monitor and respond to reviews on your behalf, so you never miss a negative review or let a 5-star review sit unanswered for weeks.

The result is predictable review growth, stronger Google Maps rankings, and more service calls without you or your team spending hours chasing feedback.
